Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee consists of representatives from five of the region's attractions, the Convention and Visitor Bureaus (CVB) of each of the three cities and the Scottsdale Tourism Development Coordinator.

The work of the committee has been based on two important planning efforts and studies: the Plan to Market Cultural Heritage Tourism, 1998-2000 and the Papago Salado Visitor Study, prepared by the Department of Recreation Management and Tourism, College of Public Programs, ASU.

A wide assortment of collaborative activities has been undertaken to promote the region as a Cultural Heritage Tourism destination. Events, such as the "Month of Sundays" and "Papago Salado Days with the Cactus League", were used to market the region to the general public. Tours and workshops also informed hospitality and tourism industry professionals about the region's unique offerings.

The current marketing program includes a range of advertising efforts targeting local residents and tourists. They include monthly ads in local newspapers, which describe changing exhibits, events and programs at the Arizona Historical Society, Desert Botanical Garden, Hall of Flame, Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park and The Phoenix zoo and provide information on local transit services. Through attractive color advertisements in publications distributed by the Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe CVBs, the Association reaches over 200,000 tourists and travel planners nationwide.

A variety of print and advertising media is sued to provide information about the Papago Salado Region including advertising panels at the Phoenix Civic Plaza and the Association's "Attractions and Points of Interest" brochure. The Papago Salado Association's web site is currently under construction, and will link to the web sites of the region’s main attractions, the three cities and the CVBs.
